With a big show of small images at the Blanchard Community Library and a newly elected Board of Directors, the Santa Paula Society of the Arts is only a month away from celebrating 47 years of creating and preserving art in the Santa Clara River Valley.

And being welcomed back is Virginia Gunderson, who long served as society president, took a break from leading the SPSA but Is back again at the helm of the organization founded in 1968.

The latest show on the Shively Memorial Wall at the library (located at 119 N. 8th St.) is the Small Image Exhibit.

Said Gunderson, “This is an eclectic collection of images for the art lovers in our communities — the prices will be reflected in their size...”

The Small Images Exhibit will be on display until June 18.

April 12 was the election of officers that will serve two-year terms who will be sworn in May 17 at the Artist of the Month Demonstration Meeting.

Gunderson was elected President, Vice President is Minnie Millett, Louise Saviers will serve as Recording Secretary and Correspondence Secretary is         Janice Dickenson.

Gunderson will also serve as Treasurer assisted by Linda Fisher.

Members at Large will be Lynda Gruber, Ken Peterson and Judy Klement,

Kaye Ford will serve as Parliamentarian and newcomer Selena Midden — who will be doing a pastel as the May 17th Demonstration Artist — is being welcome to the Board.

Chamber President Fred Robinson will install the board at the historic Depot (963 E. Santa Barbara St., at the corner of 10th Street) where the SPSA has its Gallery as well as its popular gift shop.

The Santa Paula Society of the Arts was founded in June 1968 by a group of artists in Santa Paula “who wished to maintain their friendships in the future; to increase their understanding and to improve their work; to encourage artistic growth, interest and art appreciation in all phases of the arts; to offer scholarships and encouragement to talented students; to encourage civic interest, cultural awareness and to increase development of the arts.”

The society’s membership includes all of Ventura County and beyond; the organization stages the annual Santa Paula Art & Photography Show, founded in 1937 and the oldest juried show in the state which each year draws more than 300 entries.

The Gallery and Gift Shop are open Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. and other times by appointment. For more information call 805-525-1104 or visit www.thespsa.org
