Isbell and SPHS MESA teams recognized
at board meeting

The Isbell Middle School and Santa Paula High School Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement (MESA) teams were honored by trustees of the Santa Paula Unified School District at their regular board meeting. The students recently competed in a regional competition at UC Santa Cruz and they brought home some medals. Pictured above with the MESA winners: SPUSD Superintendent Alfonso Gamino (left) and Board President Diana Ponce-Gomez (right). Isbell winners: Mark Anthony Dejesus (1st, Speak Up), Carlos Perez (1st, Solo Math), Sebastian Trebels and Isaiah Gonzalez (2nd, Prosthetic Arm), Kolby Wilkinson and Alex De Santiago (2nd, Balsa Wood Glider), Citalli Cruz and Julia Fernandez (2nd, Mousetrap Car), Sam Murillo (3rd, Mousetrap Car) and Sebastian Trebels and Jafeth Santana (3rd, Stick Together). SPHS winners: Bailey Van Buren, Sabrina Moreno, Victor Rodriguez and Eddie Rabago (1st for Academic Poster and Oral Presentation, 3rd Overall). MESA is administered by the University of California and is funded by the state legislature, corporate contributions and grants.
