“Jean”
1926-2013
We lost our mother, grandmother, aunt on Thursday, October 3, at the age of 86. She fought Alzheimers for 10 plus years, but it won the battle in the end.
Jean Boll was born in Baltimore, Maryland. She grew up during the depression, but remembered sailing on Chesapeake Bay, crab cakes (her favorite), and family steamed crab feeds. She met her first husband, Robert LeSchofs, at the USO in Baltimore. They married and moved to Santa Paula, California in 1945 when Jean was 18. They were married for 12 years. Jean then married her true love and soulmate, Paul Boll, in August of 1959 in Las Vegas. They were married for 33 years. She lost Paul to leukemia in October of 1992.
Jean worked at the Limonera Exchange and Culligan Soft Water and she especially enjoyed her years as assistant librarian at Santa Paula Union High School. She was a member of Junior Ebell (Past President), PEO, the Ventura County Firefighters Women’s Auxiliary (Fire Belles), as well as the California State Firemen’s Association.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for over 60 years, where she served on the Altar Guild and sang in the choir for many years.
Jean moved to San Jose in 2003, to be near her son and daughter-in-law. While living in northern California, she joined St. Philips Episcopal Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Kathleen LeSchofs Sorensen (Don) of Kingwood, Texas and Kathleen Boll Hughes (Gary) of Columbia, Missouri and two sons, John LeSchofs (Sally) of San Jose, California and Steve Boll (Karen) of San Diego, California. Jean had 13 grandchildren and 23 1/2 great-grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service conducted by Father Jerry Kahler at Santa Paula Cemetery on Thursday, October 17, at 2:00 pm, and a celebration of life in San Jose at St. Philips Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 9. Memorial donations can be made to Grossman Burn Center or the Alzheimers Foundation.
