Halos beat Gold Sox & Sound

The Santa Paula Halos continued their winning was by defeating the California Gold Sox 6-4 on last week at Tom Moore Field.
Tre Haliburton-Goeas (Hawaii Pacific) earned the win, going five strong innings, giving up one hit and striking out eight. The bats were led by Kevin Torres (LA Pierce) who went 2 for 3 with an RBI.
The Halos staked out an early 6-0 lead through 6 innings, but the Gold Sox scored a run in the 6th, 2 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th. Doug Christie (Hawaii Pacific) came on in the 9th for the Halos and earned the first save in franchise history, striking out all 3 batters he faced and preserved the win.
Making their first road trip of the season, the Santa Paula Halos won their 5th straight game with a 12-4 win over the Bakersfield Sound.
The Halos knocked out 15 hits, while the pitching staff held the Sound to only 5 hits on the night. Halos starter Brayden Torres (UNLV) earned his first win off the summer. Torres gave up 2 hits and 1 run in his 5 innings of work and had a no-hitter through 4 2/3 innings. Casey Rodriguez (Fresno State) and Allen Sarkissian (College of the Canyons) finished off the last 4 innings for the Halos.
The Halos offense was led by Nick Murphy (LA Pierce) who went 3 for 5 on the night and Taylor Kahanowitch (CSU-Dominguez Hills) who also went 3 for 5, hitting his 2nd homer of the summer and collecting 4 RBI’s. Other notables for the Halos were Collin Yelich (UNLV) who went 1 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI’s and John Brontsema (UC-Irvine) with a double and single on the night.
