Keshaun back on the diamond after surgery

Keshaun Mata, 14, was back on the Santa Paula Little League Field, playing with the Juniors last week after recovering from major surgery and chemotherapy.

Playing for the first time in the Junior Division for the Pirates Keshaun and his team beat Fillmore 10-1.

At this season’s opening day, the 2013 season was dedicated to Keshaun. After surgery, chemo and healing he amazed everyone with his return. The though the doctors said it would be 6 months to a year before he could play and then he received the green light. He was first diagnosed with cancer at the age of five and had to have his foot amputated.

Keshaun hit a single to right field at his first at bat and then came in to relieve the game.
