Travis Louis SmithTravis Louis Smith, age 41, of Visalia, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2001 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Travis was born June 5, 1960 in Twenty Nine Palms to R. L. “Bob” and Susan B. Smith.Travis graduated from Newbury Park High School in 1978, and met his future wife, April M. Jones. They were married in September of 1980 in Thousand Oaks.Travis went to work for Southern California Edison Company in 1982. The following year, their son, Branden Louis, was born, and their daughter, Ashley Marie, was born two years later in 1985.Travis transferred to Valencia as an apprentice lineman, and became a journeyman. In 1990 he transferred to Big Creek as an electrical foreman, and later became a troubleman.Travis enjoyed boating, water sports, was an avid Nascar race fan and made various trips to Nascar races in several states. He was one of those unique individuals who loved his family, his job and his life. He was very fortunate in this respect, and this love was returned by his family and those around him. He will be missed, but his memory will continue to inspire many of us.
Travis was preceded in death by his mother, Susan B. Smith, in 1989; and his grandfathers, Louis Charles Smith and Al Blythe. He is survived by his wife, April M. Smith of Visalia; children, Branden Louis Smith and Ashley Marie Smith, both of Visalia; father and stepmother, R. L. “Bob” and Ellen Smith of Santa Paula; sisters, Sarah Worley and husband Steve of Joplin, Missouri, and Lisa Wilcox and husband Steve of Groton, Connecticut; stepbrother Steve Kearney and wife Laurie of Ventura; grandparents, Betty and Marvin Henry of Bandon, Oregon, and Florence Blythe of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandparents-in-law, Jean and Frank Jones of Thousand Oaks; step-grandparents, Norm and June Martin of Visalia; sisters-in-law, Janine Jones of Newbury Park and Tina Kelpe of Fresno; brothers-in-law, Rick Jones and wife Carol of Spokane, Washington, and George Horton and wife Dottie of Kaui, Hawaii; six nieces; five nephews; and a loving extended family.Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 17 at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Chapel in Visalia; a reception will follow immediately at the church. Burial is private.Remembrances may be made to the Smith Family Trust Fund, c/o Southern California Edison Company, 2425 S. Blackstone St., Tulare, CA 93274.Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia.
