Dora Fae (Marinis) Light

Our beloved Dora Fae (Marinis) Light, 71, of Ojai, CA passed away suddenly April 6, 2012 from heart failure.

Fae was born on June 5, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Nick Marinis and Zevie Vance Marinis. She was raised in Chapmanville, WV with her twin sister Rae, younger sister Connie and younger brother Sam.

She married her high school sweetheart William “Bill” Light on May 25, 1960. She graduated from Marshall University in 1963 and moved to Ojai, CA in 1963 to begin teaching elementary school. She went on to obtain her master’s degree from California Lutheran University. She taught at Barbara Webster Elementary in Santa Paula, California for 25 years, and then moved to McKevett Elementary in Santa Paula to teach until her retirement in 2001.

She took great pride in educating and shaping the lives of the many children that she taught throughout the years. Her passion for teaching continued even after retirement through her gift of sharing.

After her retirement she loved reading, taking drives up the coast, playing slots at the local casino, and watching her favorite shows with her best friend in life Bill. She was a giving, generous and loyal woman who always put the needs of others first.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Tom Mathews of Goleta, CA; daughter Robin Light of Oxnard, CA; sister and brother-in-law Rae and Melvin Withrow of Chesapeake, OH; sister Connie Marinis of Chapmanville, WV; and brother and sister-in-law Sam and Brinda Marinis of Ojai, CA; along with many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Fae’s wishes were to be cremated. There will be a memorial/dedication service planned at a later time.

Should friends and family desire, contributions in her memory may be made to American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org/donate/.
