The Santa Paula JV team evened its record at 2-2 for the season by beating a tough Hueneme JV team 35-29 Friday.

The offense was led by Jesus Castrejon who rushed for one touchdown and threw two more to Oscar Cancino.  Noah Magana played well on both sides of the ball and he was the leading rusher.  He scored one touchdown and also had an interception on defense.

Johnny Aguayo played well on defense and blocked a punt that was recovered in the end zone by Jojo Garcia for the other score.  Santa Paula led 35-13 with 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter, but held off a furious Hueneme comeback.

The Cardinals scored first in the game with 6:25 left on the clock in the first quarter when Castrejon rushed for a touchdown.  Hueneme answered about a minute later with a TD of their own.  The Cards led 21-13 at the half.

The JV plays at Channel Islands High School Friday at 4:00 p.m.
