Musical sets vary with classical Egyptian pieces by Farid al-Atrash, Mohamed ‘Abd al-Wahab and Umm Kulthum, as well as popular and folkloric songs. The SK Near East Music Ensemble is known for delighting audiences with stellar entertainment while preserving the cultural integrity, historical richness and art of the music.
UU Church continues with Concert Series VIII
Exotic and Exuberant World Music is coming to Santa Paula Saturday, June 4 at 8 p.m. with the SK Near East Music Ensemble: Souhail Kaspar, master percussionist, Afif Taian, musical director, and Michelle Jubilee Gonzalez, vocalist at the Universalist Unitarian Church of Santa Paula, 740 E. Main Street.
Tickets are $20, on sale at the door or at the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce, 200 N. 10th St., phone 525-5661. A reception for the ensemble will follow the program.
Led by 2008 Grammy Award Nominee Souhail Kaspar, the SK Near East Music Ensemble provides a full program of traditional and modern concert level music from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria and North Africa. Comprised of an international assortment of musicians performing on traditional ethnic instruments combined with violins and cello, the Ensemble presents innovative and “fiery” compositions.
