Aubrey A. Bright 1918 - 2001Longtime Santa Paula resident Aubrey Bright passed away at home Sunday, April 22, 2001 at the age of 83. He was born in Oxnard to Mary and Riley Bright April 17, 1918. He was a graduate of Briggs School and Santa Paula High School, class of 1936. From 1936 until 1942 Aubrey worked for the Ventura County Citrus Exchange in Santa Paula. In June of 1944 he married Barbara Harrison while serving in the U.S. Army (1942 to 1946). His wartime duty assignments were at Fort MacArthur, CA and the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Upon discharge from the Army, Aubrey accepted a position with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) in Washington, D.C. In late 1947 Aubrey and Barbara returned to California when Aubrey began a 29 year career as the Union Oil distributor for the Santa Paula area, much of it in partnership with his father-in-law, Tom Harrison. Later in life, after leaving the oil business, he worked for Faley's Hardware and Citizens State Bank in Santa Paula. Aubrey served on the Santa Paula Elementary School Board, had been a member of Toastmasters and was a longtime member of the Santa Paula Rotary Club and the Santa Paula Chamber of Commerce. He was active in the Santa Paula Presbyterian Church throughout much of his life. He is survived by his wife, Barbara and children, David and Nancy, daughter-in-law, Sheri, former daughter-in-law, Kathie Powers, grandchildren, Deborah Sweet, Joel Bright and Hayley Bright, four great-grandchildren, brother, Harold, nieces Claudia Charles and Diana Seebock and nephews Richard and Daniel Bright.Aubrey greatly enjoyed the many friendships he was fortunate to have during a lifetime of living and working in Santa Paula. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed.At Aubrey's request, no services will be held. Those wishing to remember him may do so with a memorial donation to the California Oil Museum, 1001 East Main St., Santa Paula, CA 93060.Genevieve G. PayneGenevieve G. Payne, age 64, of Moorpark, passed away April 27, 2001 in Moorpark following a lengthy illness. She was born February 1, 1937 in Phoenix, Arizona, and was a lifelong county resident.She was employed for 25 years by the Association of Retarded Children. She enjoyed painting suncatchers, needlepoint, embroidery, and bowling. She never missed church.She is survived by her sister, Laverta Renfro of Riverside; sister-in-law Margaret Payne of Moorpark; Aunt Monty of El Monte; nieces, Theresa Skanes of North Hollywood and Marie McClure of Riverside; and nephews Tim Payne of Abilene, Texas and Ken Renfro of San Jose.Visitation will be at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula on Thursday, May 3rd from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Graveside services will be held May 3rd at 11 a.m. at Santa Paula Cemetery, the Rev. Randy Sugarman officiating.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.
