The Cardinal basketball team traveled to El Segundo for a First Round CIF playoff game Wednesday night.

Santa Paula came away with a 76-61 loss.  One problem the Cards encountered was the 6-foot, 10-inch center playing for El Segundo.  At first Santa Paula appeared to be intimidated as he dominated the backboards and knocked down Santa Paula shots.  The El Segundo Eagles led 33-17 at the end of the first quarter and they increased that lead to 19 points at half time.

By the end of the third quarter the Eagles had a 21-point edge.

Santa Paula did very well at the free throw line, shooting 14 for 15.  Appearing in his last game, senior Antonio Rios had an outstanding game with 26 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals for the Cards.  Other top scorers for the Cardinals were: Eduardo Jimenez, 11 points, 2 rebounds; senior Juan Martinez, 9 points, 4 rebounds; Taylor Casas, 9 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal; Kameron Klein, 4 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal; senior Cesar Correa, 2 points, 2 rebounds.
