Lynn Swann hosts tourney

Hall of Fame legend Lynn Swann will host the Technicolor Big Brothers Big Sisters Golf Classic April 20, 2009 at Saticoy Country Club in Somis. The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001, has been the national spokesman for Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) since 1980. Swann’s impressive public service record includes serving as chairman of the President’s council on Physical Fitness and Sports from 2002 to 2005. He is a past president of the national BBBSA board of directors. Swann’s passionate commitment to youth aligns perfectly with the vision of Big Brothers Big Sisters. “Lynn Swann has had a long-term connection with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and has worked hard to assure that youth who need and want a mentor are served,” said Lynne West, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Ventura County. April 2009 marks the 21st annual fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County, previously known as the Technicolor Corey Pavin Golf Classic. The Technicolor Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County Golf Classic is the organizations largest fundraising event.Swann was an All-American at the University of Southern California, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the USC Annenberg School for Communication. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected him as 21st pick of the first round during the 1974 NFL Draft. He spent his entire NFL career with the Steelers, wearing number 88. He was a member of one of the best NFL drafts in history, along with John Stallworth, Mike Webster, and Jack Lambert, all Hall-of-Famers.Swann was a football and sports broadcaster for “ABC Sports” from 1976 to 2006. He retired from football in 1982.
