The Cardinal varsity baseball team took on an alumni squad Saturday in the annual event, ending in a 10-10 tie after nine innings.
By the end of two innings the varsity had a 4-0 lead. That’s when the alumni bats came to life, as they scored three runs in the third. The varsity answered with three runs of their own to end the fourth inning. It wasn’t until the sixth inning that the alumni scored three more. The varsity got one more in the seventh and two in the ninth. The alumni brought in three in the final inning as well. Both sides decided to leave it at a tie game. It appeared that some of the older alumni players didn’t have the energy to keep on going. The umpires were brothers Paul Lemos (plate) and Gilbert Lemos (bases).
The Cardinals have scrimmages this weekend at Hueneme and Ventura High Schools. They play in the Royal varsity and JV Tournaments starting March 6. Their first home game will be Tuesday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m.
