Harold Clay Dudley Harold Clay Dudley, 81, of Carmel and former long-term resident of Salinas, passed away suddenly on November 8, 2008. He was born March 5, 1927 in Ventura, CA.He was very proud to be a “double native,” with family roots going back three generations to the Gold Rush Days in California. He grew up on the Dudley Ranch near Fillmore.He was educated in the “little red” Santa Clara Elementary Schoolhouse, and graduated from Santa Paula High School in January 1945 at age 17. He immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and after boot camp he was accepted into the Navy V5 program.He attended Berea College, Kentucky; Cornell University, New York; Bucknell University, Pennsylvania; UCLA, California, and received a B.S. from University of California at Berkeley in 1949. He started his career with University of California Agriculture Extension Service as a farm advisor.He later became an independent businessman, finally settling on insurance sales for the last 50 years. He loved working with people, and remained loyal to his clients for a lifetime. He planned to retire… next year.
His great loves were the Cal Bears, SF Giants, the SF 49ers, and his family. Hal believed in community service, and served for many years on the YMCA Board of Directors, was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Salinas, and was a member and past president of the Monterey Association of Life Underwriters.Hal is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joy Dillingham Dudley of Carmel; daughters Janet (Peter) Griffin of Woodside, Lori (Matt) Blake of Clovis, Wendi Dudley of Riverbank and Patti (Omar) Hindiyeh of Livermore; son, Scott (Meg) Dudley of San Ramon; brother Robert (Bob) Dudley of Fillmore; and seven grandchildren.
