By B. J. Harding, President, SPUHS Alumni Association Audree was born in Oxnard to her parents, Emmett A. and Effie Clark DeCamp of Santa Paula. She attended McKevett, Ventura Street and Isbell grade schools.At SPUHS Audree was a member of the Future Homemakers Association, the Tri-Y Club, the Girls Athletic Association, and in the Girls Chorus. She was also in the double trio under the direction of H. Peyton Johnson. Audree studied dramatics with Carl Jorgenson, and took a course in business, learning typing, shorthand and bookkeeping. She also was a senior counselor.Audree remembers friends from as far back as kindergarten. Some were Wayne Allee (‘50), Claudine (‘50) and Claude (‘48) Wells, Helen Wells (‘50), June Richerson (‘50), Mackie Felkins (‘50), and Nancy Wilvert (‘50).Between Isbell and high school, Audree worked part time for F. W. Woolworth on Main Street, and in her senior year she worked half days as a payroll clerk for the Mupu Citrus Association, where she continued after graduation.In 1950 she married James W. Davis of Ventura, whom she had been dating for two years. Shortly after their marriage, James was drafted into the Army and was sent to Korea for two years. He was wounded twice, sent to Japan, and then came home to Santa Paula, where they made their home until 1957.
In 1957 they were blessed with the birth of daughter, Cynthia, and in 1958 with the birth of their son, Christopher. Cynthia, Class of 1975, married Tyrone Fairbanks, and they have three children and live in Woodland, Texas. Christopher, Class of 1976, married Karen Leon, and they have two children and live in Ojai. James and Audree moved to Ventura in 1957, then back to Santa Paula, and eventually to Ojai, where they still reside.After her children were raised Audree went back to work, first as a salesclerk for the Campus Shop in Santa Paula, and then as a bookkeeper for McCoy’s Automotive. She then worked for Modular Air Co. in Santa Paula as bookkeeper, and finally for Fairbanks & Haas, Inc. in Ventura until 1991, when she retired.This year James and Audree will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of their wedding, and they spend their time spoiling their grandchildren, reading, and working crossword puzzles. Audree is also the co-correspondent for the Alumni Association for the Class of 1950.They recently enjoyed the 50th anniversary of Audree’s graduation from SPUHS, held in conjunction with the annual Alumni banquet.
