The Santa Paula FFA & the Topa Topa Flywheelers Team Up for the Chevron Restoration Competition for next year’s 82nd Annual National FFA Conventio. The convention sets the stage for World Series of Tractor Restoration - The annual Delo Tractor Restoration Competition crowns its champions in Indianapolis. A year’s worth of hard work will give the students the opportunity to present their restoration projects to a panel of experts in hopes of securing the coveted national title. After two days of tough competition and rigorous evaluation, the teams of students of a particular FFA Chapter prevail in claiming the Grand Prize of the National Title and $2,500.00. Since 1995 the Chevron’s Delo Tractor Restoration Competition has rewarded the determination, mechanical skill and business savvy of high school-aged FFA members from around the country. Through the restoration of an antique tractor, participants develop skills applicable to the modern business word. The skills needed to be successful in the program - equipment maintenance, safety, team work, project management, budgeting, planning and marketing - help develop the participants into future leaders in the agriculture community.“The Delo Tractor Restoration competitors represent not only the future of agriculture, but the future of our nation,” said Forest Graber, Field Training Specialist, Chevron Products Company. “The spirit required for a full scale restoration project - deep commitment, determination and resourcefulness - will surely have a positive influence on our collective community as they move from school to career. As always, the Delo brand is very proud to be involved with this event.”The Delo Tractor Restoration Competition finalists span the country from Pennsylvania to California. All entrants are required to submit a workbook that detailed the entire tractor restoration process, from mechanical overhauls of the engine, transmission and auxiliary and ancillary systems, to the external appearance of the tractors. These finalists are invited to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis to present their projects to a panel of five professional tractor restorers. Projects are graded on restoration process, results and documentation, as well as, oral presentation and safety precautions. The local antique tractor club has agreed to intern three students from Santa Paula High School to restore a 1954 Ford 851 and a 1952 Massey-Ferguson TO20.
