Cardinals take commanding lead in JV softball

On Wednesday, April 2, the JV softball team defeated host Channel Islands 21-0. The Cards scored one run in the second inning, six runs in the fourth, one run in the fifth, and 13 runs in the seventh. Pitcher Raeleen Hernandez allowed only four hits, had no walks, and stuck out nine batters. The defense was also outstanding, playing another error-free game.Even though Channel Islands pitchers gave up quite a few walks and their defense had several errors, Cardinal hitters still had 13 legitimate hits. Celina Mendez had three hits, Joleen Zuniga had three hits and scored three runs, and Diana Ochoa had two hits and scored three runs and three RBIs. Alexis Hernandez and Raeleen Hernandez each scored three runs, and Haydee Velasquez had an extra base hit and three RBIs.Coach Sam Cathcart said, “The best thing is that everyone ran the bases well and hustled the whole game.” Coaches Henry Jacinto and Cathcart were “extremely pleased with the girls’ work ethic so far. They are also very positive to each other.”
The season record is now 3-2.
