Isbell MESA (Mathematics, Engineering and Science Achievement) students placed in several categories at the MESA preliminaries earlier this month at UC Santa Barbara. Isbell projects included crystals, bridges, soil science, mousetrap cars and solo math. They placed in the top three categories of each competition except for bridges and solo math (results are still pending). Besides the competition the students attended workshops, which included such things as blowing up methane and hydrogen and built bucky balls and rockets. Medal winners qualifying for regional competition on April 28 at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo are pictured above: (not in order) Noe Garcia, Rosalino Mendez, Esther Kim, Deandra Perez, Matthew Cardenas, Adrian Macias, Joel Arenas, Fernando Ramirez, Sugeiry Ambriz, Diana Flores, Mariana Gonzalez and Sam Garcia.
