Las Vegas was a favorite destination where Hattie visited several times a year. “She loved the quarter machines, the excitement and atmosphere of Las Vegas. She especially liked the Golden Nugget Casino,” said Carol.Hattie was also a longtime member of the Eastern Star in Massachusetts.She is survived by her children, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. at Charles Carroll Mortuary, 15 Teloma Drive, Ventura. The Revs. Daniel Stevens and Miji Working of Eastminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Internment will follow at Ivy Lawn Cemetery in Ventura.In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be sent to Santa Clara Valley Hospice, PO Box 265, Santa Paula, CA 93061.

Hattie May Weeks
Hattie May Weeks, 82 of Ventura, died Friday, Aug. 20, 1999 in Ventura after a brief illness.Born June 28, 1917 in Reading, Massachusetts, she attended local schools. She married George F. Weeks in Boston on July 18, 1936 and became a career housewife.Hattie and George had three children who survive her, Carol Burhoe of Santa Paula, Cynthia Howe of Merrimac, New Hampshire, and George Weeks, Jr. of Ventura.Hattie and George moved to Ventura, California in 1965, where he continued his career as a machinist with Vetco Corp.George passed away in May 1983, shortly after his retirement.Hattie enjoyed reading but “Her life was her own kids and then her grandchildren,” said her daughter, Carol Burhoe. “She spent a lot of time with her grandchildren as they grew. . .she and Dad would take them places, out for rides, to eat out, just spending time with them.”Hattie was outgoing, the “Type of person that never met a stranger; park her in a waiting room and she would be able to give you the history of everybody she spoke to,” Carol added.Overall, “Mother did what she wanted to,” although her husband passed away in May 1983, “too quickly after his retirement for them to do much in his leisure time.”
