Georgene Hinchcliff Georgene Hinchcliff passed away peacefully on August 29, 2006 in Ventura, with her children by her side.Mrs. Hinchcliff was born December 19, 1920 in Waltham, Massachusetts, moving at an early age to New York City. She remained a New Yorker, including the accent, for 85 years of life, even though she relocated to California in 1946. She was an enthusiastic Dodger fan, starting when the team still played in Brooklyn, New York.Georgene volunteered for many organizations throughout her life: Los Angeles County Republican Womens Club, IEEE (L.A. Chapter president), P.T.A., Head Start, and as a teacher for F.L.A.I.R. Literacy campaign in Santa Paula. She was also a successful business owner, retiring at 60 to enjoy her Dodger games, family, and friends at Hillview Estates.Georgene is survived by her sister, Thelma Stinnett of Seal Beach, CA; son, Leo “Mike” Hinchcliff (Rose) of Ventura; daughters, Gloria Hinchcliff of Santa Paula and Valerie Powell (Larry) of Carmichael, CA; grandchildren, Heather, Adam, Julie, Amy and Liz; niece Sandy McKain (Mike); great-grandchildren, Alexander, Nicholas and Elliot; grandnieces Kristen, Jenny and Shannon; and her special canine friend, Nahoa.She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her brother-in-law Gordon Stinnett; and her great-grandson, Jason Spencer, Jr.Services will be private.Mrs. Hinchcliff has been entrusted to the care of the privately owned Joseph Reardon Funeral Home, 757 E. Main St. in downtown Ventura, 643-8623.Juliet Irene FerchJuliet Irene Ferch, 86, of Santa Paula, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2006. Mrs. Ferch was born December 14, 1919 in Kulm, North Dakota, and was a resident of Santa Paula for 34 years.Mrs. Ferch enjoyed being around her family, and loved to cook for her grandchildren. When not cooking, she helped to make Braille books for the blind, as well as enjoying sewing and making lots of rag dolls, which she enjoyed giving away to friends. She also made lap blankets for her church sales.Mrs. Ferch was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Herman D. Ferch. She is survived by her children, daughter Judith (husband Gary) King of La Puente, and son Herman D. Ferch, also of La Puente, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, sister Laura Smith and family, Santa Paula.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, September 8 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery.Arrangements are under the direction of Stetler Mortuary Funeraria del ángel, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.Ray J. GonzalezRay J. Gonzalez, 86, of Ventura, passed away on Sunday, September 3, 2006 at home, with his loving family by his side. Ray was born February 17, 1920 in Santa Paula, and was a lifelong resident of Ventura County.Ray’s working years were as an automotive body repair and paint man working in Fillmore, Santa Paula and Ventura. In addition, Ray’s love for entertainment led him to become a radio personality known as “El Muchacho Alegre” to his listeners during the 50s on radio stations in Santa Paula, Ventura and Santa Barbara. Ray loved to go fishing, however the real love of Ray’s life was his family and the time that they spent together and the times they barbecued in the back yard.Ray was preceded in death by his daughter, Helen Jean Guzman. Ray is survived by his wife, Josephine Gonzalez; his children, Gilbert, Lynda, Suzanne and Betty; 31 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson, due in October; brothers, Rudy, Ernest and John; and sisters, Connie, Rachel, Carmen and Mary.A visitation will be held on Friday, September 8 at Stetler Mortuary, with a wake service at 7 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, September 9 at 10 a.m., also at Stetler Mortuary.Arrangements are under the direction of Stetler Mortuary Funeraria del ángel, 128 S. 8th St., Santa Paula, 525-5595.
