Cards lose back-to-back games this week

The JV and Cardinal varsity baseball teams had a tough time of it this week, losing games to Nordhoff in League play and to Buena High in non-league contests. The varsity missed out against Nordhoff 7-5. The Rangers got all of their runs in the first inning. Santa Paula dug away for the remainder of the game but couldn’t make up the deficit.Julian Gonzalez pitched the entire game for the Cards, allowing 5 hits and 7 runs. There were only two earned runs out of the seven.At the plate Johnny Carrillo hit 3-4 with 1 run and 3 RBIs. Joey Villa went 2-4 with 1 RBI. Villa also had a double.The JV boys lost their contest at Nordhoff 13-3.The varsity hosted Buena High School the following day, losing that one 16-2.The Cardinals could only come up with 2 runs in the fifth inning against a tough Buena squad. George Garcia started on the mound for Santa Paula, allowing 14 runs off 13 hits. Seven of those runs were earned. Stephen Paul came in to finish the game, allowing 2 runs.
Paul and Robert Perez scored the two Cardinal runs.The JV boys lost their game 15-5. Hugo Guevara went 2-4 with 2 RBIs; Andrew Burboa hit a bases-loaded double for 3 RBIs.The JV and varsity play a double-header tomorrow at Fillmore, starting at 11:00 a.m.
