On February 24, Girl Scouts of Heritage Valley Service Unit (Piru, Fillmore and Santa Paula) celebrated Girl Scouts around the world with their annual Thinking Day gathering. Thinking Day is a special day in the Girl Scout year to remember that Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. is part of an international movement. Celebrated every year on or about February 22, the joint birthday of the late Lord Baden-Powell, founder of Boy Scouts, and his wife Lady Baden-Powell, on this day Girl Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world take a moment to think about their sisters in the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and to send them greetings.Service Unit Manager Glenda Learn expressed the gratitude of the group. “We would like to thank St Paul’s Episcopal Church for hosting our event. We had over 75 girls and their families participate in cultural presentations from various countries. 64 spent the night in a ‘large’ slumber party. We would also like to thank Leader Sandy Easley and daughter Kristen for organizing this event, and all our leaders and troops for the spectacular show.” Local girls who would like to join the program, and the fun, are invited to call Glenda Learn at 525-8566. Scouts range in age from kindergarten Daisies to Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes and Senior Girl Scouts. Adult volunteer members are also welcome. For those who wish to support Scouting in other ways, Girl Scout Cookies are now on sale, starting March 3. If you were missed during the preorder period, now is the time to participate in this once-a-year event.
