The Yes on Measure Y campaign today announced that retired Santa Paula police chief Bob Gonzales has joined the effort for The Adams Preserve. Gonzales served on the Santa Paula police department for 33 years and became the city’s first Hispanic police chief in May 1999. Gonzales is a third generation Santa Paulan and has lived in the community for over five decades. He joins the Measure Y campaign as a coordinator and community liaison, dedicated to building support for the April 18 ballot measure. On April 18, Santa Paula will vote on Measure Y and The Adams Preserve, more than 6000 acres that will lock-in more than 80% open space, 100 acres of parks and sports fields, 40 acres for a new school, and only 495 home sites nestled in the canyons.“The Adams Preserve is Santa Paula’s once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” said Gonzales. “I decided to support Measure Y and join this campaign because I truly believe this is the kind of project our city needs. Santa Paula’s renewal can help future generations of families who choose to make Santa Paula their home. This initiative will ensure that only a few homes are built while creating an enormous amount of benefits for our community.” “We are grateful to have someone like Bob join us,” said Arnold Dahlberg, owner of the 6,000-acre Adams Preserve. “His knowledge of the community and his commitment to the future of Santa Paula is exactly what we need to help make sure Santa Paula receives all of the benefits from this project.”
If approved, Measure Y will allow for the creation of a plan for The Adams Preserve that would place certain restrictions on any development - reduced density, dedication of thousands of acres of permanent open space, and land for schools, parks and other recreational amenities. It would also create hundreds of new jobs for local families and would make a significant contribution to the city’s General Fund - eventually more than $20 million per year, every year after build out. If the initiative passes, the city environmental review and planning process can begin.“I’ve lived and served in this community for more than half a century,” said Gonzales. “I want to make sure that we’re being good stewards for our community. The Adams Preserve initiative ensures that Santa Paula will have what it needs for generations to come.”For more information on Measure Y, visit www.yesonmeasurey.org or call 933-2182.
