California State University Channel Islands is accepting undergraduate applications for the fall 2006 semester.

California State University Channel Islands is accepting undergraduate applications for the fall 2006 semester. Freshmen and transfer students who apply during the open filing period will be eligible for admittance upon meeting the academic requirements of the University. The priority deadline for all CSU applications for undergraduates is November 30, 2005. Last year, the Channel Islands campus remained open to applications from upper division transfer students into the spring semester, but the campus closed to freshman applications at the end of the priority filing period. “We have excellent academic programs on a beautiful campus and as that word spreads, we are getting more applications both from our local area and from all over the state,” said Jane Sweetland, dean of Enrollment Services. “At this stage, we are open to all qualified applicants, but we do recommend that students, especially freshmen, apply during the open filing period to ensure their admission.” Undergraduate applications include first-time freshmen and upper division transfers with 60 transferable units. “The campus is also open to students seeking a second baccalaureate degree and a variety of teaching credentials,” Sweetland added. Priority deadline for teaching credential applicants is April 2006. On-campus housing is available to a limited number of admitted students on a first-come, first-serve basis. While the total number of CSUCI students this academic year is approximately 2,500 students, the University anticipates a total of approximately 3,000 for the 2006-07 academic year. “This year, we enrolled close to 400 freshmen, and next year we’ll have about 500, so opportunities for freshmen are growing,” Sweetland said.
CSUCI currently offers undergraduate degrees in art, biology, business, chemistry, computer science, economics, English: Literature and Writing, environmental science and resource management, history, liberal studies, mathematics, psychology, sociology, and Spanish. Students may now also apply for performing arts and political science, available for the 2006-07 academic year. Administrative services, education specialist, multiple subject, and single subject, and special education teaching credentials are also offered.
