The Hesters enjoy getting together with family and friends and Opal’s classmates of the Santa Paula High School Alumni Association. Opal and Roy are “grateful to the Lord” for their long and happy marriage and the good years He has blessed them with.

Opal and Roy Hester celebrate 60th wedding anniversary

Opal and Roy Hester of Ventura journeyed by car to Frederick, Oklahoma for a May 9 celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary. Prior to their departure, they were the dinner guests of Dr. and Mrs. Charles Owen of Santa Barbara.
According to the article published in the Santa Paula Chronicle on May 15, 1945, “From Frederick, Oklahoma comes the news of the wedding of Miss Opal Felkins and T/Sgt. V. Roy Hester which was solemnized in the Frederick Army Air Field Post chapel at Frederick, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, May 9, at 7 p.m. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Felkins of Mail Route No. 1 Santa Paula and Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Hester of Rural Route 1, Box 137 of this city are the parents of the bridegroom.”Opal and Roy made their home in Frederick until Roy received his discharge, and then they returned to Ventura County to live and raise their family. They had two daughters, Nancy and Linda. Nancy and her husband Ed Glaser now live in Iowa, but Linda passed away after a brief illness in 1999.The Hesters have seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, Mariah and Isaiah, born last year. Two little great grandsons are deceased.Roy was employed by Arden Farms for five years, Knudsen Dairy Products for 25 years, and Toyota and Crown Dodge for 12 years, retiring from Crown Dodge in 2002. Opal and Roy enjoyed motel management in Texas and California for over 12 years.
