Exceptional care

To the Editor:

To the Staff of Santa Paula Memorial Hospital:

During the months of November and December of last year, our father and husband, Gilbert Jackson became ill and passed away. During that difficult and stressful time, we were very fortunate to have him in the care of Santa Paula Memorial Hospital and staff.

Over the last couple of years we have had the occasion to experience the service provided by several well known medical institutions in the area. We were very grateful for the exceptional level of expertise and caring of the staff at all levels of our fine hospital.

We would also like to give special thanks to Dorothy Gaeta, Judy Refsland, Ana Bailey, Kathleen Aguirre, Patty Arguelles, Susan Houx, David Hernandez, Dr. Tubbs, Dr. Iwasiuk and Dr. Sparkuhl for their extraordinary services provided. We feel it is an institution well deserving of respect and support by the community.

Thanks for support

To the Editor:

My family and I wish to thank all our loving friends and the community for their support and memorials in the memory of Bob.

We received wonderful support from Father Bill Baumgarten and members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Also, a big thank you to Dr. Deutsch, Dr. Slater, Beck Walkup, and Santa Clara Valley Hospice, Santa Paula Hospital, and Health Care Manor for their sincere care.

Santa Paula Hillview Estates is a wonderful place to live.

Vote for all or none...

To the Editor:

In September, 1999, a local town citizen wanted to change our history on voting. This person wants the precincts changed so that the City Council would have more Latinos.

As the voting “now is” in our town, we can each vote for or against five Council members. It should stay this way, was the comments I’ve heard from talking with many many locals, both Latino and non-Latino.

Only one said they weren’t sure. Most all said it isn’t the nationality they vote for. It is the education, common sense, are they for all of us, listen to us and also have a sense of humor. Also they should work at it and visit the locals regularly through time. And have a good attitude. This is all very important. And spend wisely.

If we were to have separate precincts then let it be Latino, German, French, British, Greek, Italian, etc. Then we could have a variety.

Look back a long way. We have had Latino citizens in the City Council, and some for many years. They became mayors and served our town. “Anyone” who wants to vote can do so. And, they are legal.

It is darn sad and silly to spend our tax money for stupid reasons as has been done in the last several years in a city that is badly hurting for real things. Yes, real.

I don’t vote for promises. Try hard to do a job that is right for all if possible. That is the way. The many Latino, Asian, black, etc. friends I have are not into who they are, but just to be American. They vote for energetic applicants who are intelligent and know what the hell is going on, and be proud. And spend time with us and our issues, our fund raisings of sorts, and a cup of coffee, among a trillion other things.

This prejudice jabbing thing with one is going on and on and should not be. All through the years the Council members voted on an issue and that was it, all cut and dried. But the last six years have not been so easy. Some two hour meetings drag on for three hours (zzz). The votes are cut and dried but stay damp for a while.
