Fillmore Fancy Hatters, a chapter of the worldwide organization known as the Red Hat Society, plan to have lunch Saturday, Nov. 6, 11 a.m., at Fresh Choice Restaurant, 3449 E. Main St. in Ventura. Formed in April 2003, by Queen Mother Dorothy Lynch and Princess Ewahee Nathalie Milliken, the group is always looking for more ladies who like to dress up, go out to eat, show off at parades (where this year they won first place in the group division of Fillmore’s Early California Days Parade), and do other fun things in their distinctive red hats and purple outfits. The philosphy of the group is based on the poem, “Warning,” by Jenny Joseph, which speaks of an old woman who wears purple and red, picks the neighbors’ flowers and makes up for the sobriety of her youth.
Often referred to as a “disorganization,” the chapters located worldwide are made up of women, most over 50 years old, who like to belong to something where there are no rules, no responsibilities and where the main objective is to have fun. Fillmore Fancy Hatters goes so far as to have no dues and no officers. Any women interested in joining the group for lunch should call Dorothy Lynch at 524-2926. Guests are welcome but advance reservations are urged.
