She leaves behind her husband of 40 years, Steve G.; one daughter, Elizabeth Hernandez; two sons, Alexander (wife Ana) of Visalia and Steve Jr.; and long time pal “Mini” (a chihuahua).She was preceded in death by her mother, Jennie Morales Garcia, and brothers, Lorenzo Morales and Rev. Raul Garcia.She is survived by brothers, Joe Morales, Cid Garcia (wife Maria) of El Paso, Texas, and Rev. Gilbert Garcia (wife Mary Lou) of Tucson, Arizona; sister Petra Quintero (husband Augie); sisters-in-law Dolores Morales, Rachel Garcia, Vera Cox and Victoria White; brother-in-law Manual Martinez; and her cousin Julia Vasquez of El Paso, Texas (who was more like a sister to her). She also leaves behind five grandchildren: Christina, Julio and Maria Isabel Hernandez, and Eliza Alexis and Andrew Steven Martinez of Visalia. She was blessed with great-grandchildren: Omar, Sammy, Anthony, Deanna and Alexander Ruiz, Christian Madrigal, and Alexus Hernandez. In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.Jennie loved the Lord with all her heart. We will all miss her fun-loving personality and listening to her sing gospel songs Mariachi-style.Services were conducted December 13 at the Spanish Assembly of God in Santa Paula, Rev. Gilbert Garcia and Rev. Raymond Ontiveros officiating.She is entrusted to the care of Garcia Mortuary of Oxnard.

Clara Ruth Bailey
Clara Ruth Bailey, age 86, of Santa Paula, passed away December 10, 1999 following a brief illness.Mrs. Bailey was born May 25, 1913 in Jackson County, Tennessee, and was a county resident for 35 years, coming from Coalinga, California. She was the owner/operator of Bailey’s Alterations for 25 years.Mrs. Bailey is survived by her daughter, Judith Touchette of Flagstaff, Arizona; sons, Vernon (Myrna) Bailey of Ventura, and Wayne (Joyce) of Camino; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Jackson of Gainsboro, Tennessee and Bonnell Biggers of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee; and brother Edward Rogers of Crossville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vesper B. Bailey, and daughter Ruthann Caldwell.Graveside services will be held on Thursday, December 16, 1:30 p.m., at Santa Paula Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.Arrangements are under the direction of Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, Santa Paula.Gilbert Sunderland JacksonGilbert Sunderland Jackson of Santa Paula passed away December 9, 1999.He was born June 9, 1918 in Green Mountain, Iowa, the only child of Grace Jackson and Bert H. Jackson. In the early 1920s they moved from Iowa to California, first living in Santa Monica, then moving to Altadena. He was graduated from John Muir High School, then attended Iowa State University where he received a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1946. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, and married Florence Madsen (aka Meg Jackson) in 1946.He practiced large animal medicine in Northern Minnesota for a time, then moved back to California, setting up Mupu Trail Veterinary Clinic in Santa Paula in 1950. His practice included both large and small animal care. His large animal practice served many of the large ranches in the Santa Clara Valley, including Camulos, Rancho Sespe, Percy Ranch on Hopper Mountain, Ferndale Ranch, and the Stanton Ranch on Santa Cruz Island. He loved his work and continued to practice veterinary medicine until 1995.He served on the Santa Paula High School Board for eight years, and was a long time member of the Santa Paula Rotary Club, the Physicians for Social Responsibility, the Heifer Project International, the U.S. Surfing Association, and Los Santadores. As an ardent environmentalist and outdoorsman, he was an active surfer, sailor, fisherman, and hiker. He remained physically very active, recently hiking up Santa Paula Canyon for a canyon cleanup, and delivering Meals on Wheels.He was always devoted to his family and friends, and a constant inspiration to them. He is survived by his wife Meg (Florence) of Santa Paula; children, Susan of Goleta, Tom and wife Judy of Carpinteria, Doug and wife Tama’a of Belgium, brant of Santa Paula, and Matt of Carpinteria; and grandchildren, Keiti, Grace, Erica, Sam, Maggie, Sunderland and Jonathan.Services were scheduled at 7 p.m. December 14 at the Santa Paula Universalist Unitarian Church.
