Lady Cards finish up play at Lancaster soccer tourney

The Santa Paula girls’ soccer teams took time out from their holiday break to play in the Lancaster JV and varsity tournament. The JV squad won two of their four games and the varsity came away with one win out of four games.The JV lost to Palmdale in their opening game 3-0, but came back to win over Village Christian 2-0. After a day off the junior varsity lost a game to Highland 5-0 and then beat Antelope Valley 3-0. The JV Lady Cards now have a season record of 6-3-0.The Varsity girls lost their first game to Lancaster 3-1 and then returned to beat Rosamond 5-1. The Lady Cardinals returned after a day off to lose to Burroughs 1-0 and Tehachapi 2-0.Lizzette Guzman had four goals and one assist for the JV during the tourney. Rena Sepulveda had one goal; Rosie Sandoval had an assist, as did Maggie Prado. Guzman registered a first historic hat trick against Antelope Valley. She now holds the JV single season scoring record with eight goals and four assists.
On the varsity side, Raquel Gonzalez hit the net three times. Ramona Sanchez had one goal. Jessica Gudino had a goal and an assist, as did Cynthia Martinez. Faviola Munoz had two assists and Joanna Baez had one assist. Gonzalez’ scoring for the season now stands at eight goals and five assists.
