A pursuit that started in Santa Paula Thursday and caused an accident ended in Ventura, but so far the suspect involved has not been located.

According to Ventura Police, the March 9 incident started at about 1 p.m. when Santa Paula Police attempted to pull a dark Honda Accord over on East Main Street at 7th Street.

The driver of the Honda, a male subject wearing a hat, refused to pull over and continued westbound on East Main Street.

A witness said when the suspect approached Palm Avenue the Honda sped off on the wrong side of the street, making a left turn off Main Street onto Palm Avenue. The vehicle then continued south until it entered Highway 126 traveling westbound.

Santa Paula Police continued to follow the vehicle and the California Highway Patrol joined the pursuit as the vehicle merged with the northbound Highway 101.

The Honda crashed at California Street as it exited but continued through Downtown Ventura at a high rate of speed.

Due to the danger to other motorists, the CHP discontinued the pursuit but Ventura Police — as well as the SPPD — kept an eye on the vehicle, which had stopped speeding, at a safe distance.

Police ran the license plate and found the vehicle is registered to a Ventura city address and connected to a prior warrant for failing to yield and speeding.

The unidentified suspect abandoned the vehicle near Red Barn Market in the area of Ventura Avenue and was last seen on foot at Barnett Street.
