The Spring Tea was all about elegance from the high tea to the exquisite place settings at the annual gathering held April 30 in the Parish Hall and hosted by the Women of St. Paul’s Episcopal/Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

A Silent Auction and raffle rounded out the tea that benefitted Many-Meals, CASP and Santa Clara Valley Hospice-Home Support Group.

Hats and gloves were encouraged but optional for the high tea traditionally attended by mothers and daughters.

And that included Clarice Mitchiner of Oxnard who attended with her daughter Ruby Manning and their friend Rose Martinez.

“We’ve come several times in the past,” said Rose who noted that 99-year-old Clarice, wearing a glittering cap, especially likes the socializing.

Each table was set with members’ personal tea sets further highlighted by the centerpieces crafted by Pamela Rogers Tooke, spring flowers held in tiny teapots or creamers.

Father Michael Fincher welcomed the visitors and thanked them “for supporting our ladies…one way we give back to the City of Santa Paula,” is money raised by the Silent Auction and raffle.

“We hope you’ll be generous in your bidding,” and he noted, “I thank the Women of St. Paul’s/Emmanuel Lutheran Church for all you do for the community.”

Patti Fallini designed the logo for the tea that was also used on the hostess’ gifts that included small packets of seeds carefully selected to attract winged creatures.

“You can plant a shoebox size of butterfly garden flowers,” Fallini said with a smile.

Known as a rose expert, Cathy Barringer immediately noted that the peach roses on the placemats perfectly matched the roses on Rose Martinez’s hat.

“That just goes to prove there’s no such thing as too many roses!” laughed Barringer.

The buffet was piled high with traditional dainty sandwiches featuring a variety of tasty fillings and delicious sweets including cupcakes, brownies and tart lemon bars.

Marilyn Harvey thanked all who helped prepare the High Tea noting, “And there were dozens!”

Hats were on display as well as teapot collections showing why the annual Spring Tea fills the Parish Hall each year.
