Published:  May 13, 2016

Be on the lookout for a blue-eyed pit bull with a wide grin that was stolen at gunpoint Monday afternoon while out on a walk with an employee of the area animal shelter.

According to Santa Paula Police Sgt. Cody Madison the May 9 incident occurred about 2:13 p.m. when officers responded to SPARC (Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center), located at 705 E. Santa Barbara St. for a report of a robbery that had just occurred.

Upon arrival the unidentified victim, who is an employee of SPARC, told officers he was walking the grey and white, blue-eyed dog in the “700 block of East Santa Paula Street when a white Honda or Acura sedan drove up to him.”

Madison said the victim told police, “Two suspects exited the vehicle, with the driver producing a handgun, and demanded the dog stating it belonged to them.”

The victim allowed the suspects to take the dog and they fled the area driving westbound on East Santa Paula Street.

Madison said the victim was able to give descriptions of the suspects noting that the driver of the vehicle was a Hispanic, mid-30s, about 5’6” tall, heavyset, clean shaven and wearing a grey sweater, grey checkered shorts and white Nike shoes.

The second suspect was also a Hispanic male, late 20s, about 6’ tall, thin build and clean shaven, wearing red shirt with cartoon characters, black pants, and grey Vans.

Police canvassed the surrounding neighborhood to see if any witnesses could be located but were unsuccessful.
