You’ll have a doggone good time and help a great cause at the annual Santa Paula Police K9 Spaghetti Dinner to be held Wednesday April 27.

The Santa Paula Police & Fire Foundation will be putting on the dog — or rather three dogs — at the event honoring retired K9 Zak, ready to rumble Ace and the SPPD’s newest K9 Django.

The dinner — featuring spaghetti and meatballs, green salad, garlic toast and ice cream sandwiches for dessert — will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Community Center. The exciting program where the dogs show their crime-fighting stuff will start at 7 p.m.

The pocket friendly annual dinner is hit with families, especially children who enjoy the tablemats featuring the SPPD K9s and their handlers ready to be autographed.

Tickets are still only $15 each for adults and $5 each for children 12 and younger (Dine-in Only). Takeout is available for $15 a plate; there is no child takeout available.

The evening will also feature fun raffles and plenty of socializing and photo opportunities with the dogs and their handlers: the retired Zak and Larry Johnson, a former SPPD Sgt.; Ace and his handler Senior Officer Allen Macias and the SPPD’s newest K9, Django and his handler Officer Daniel Gosselin.

Dinner Chairwoman Debbie Johnson, treasurer of the Santa Paula Police & Fire Foundation, said the purchase of the newest K9 addition to the SPPD, Django, was a community effort.

“The Foundation was able to purchase Django due to the fabulous support from Santa Paula businesses and the community…it’s all because of the generous donations of our sponsors and individuals that come out to the dinner that we are able to keep the SPPD K9 program viable.”

Johnson noted the value of K9s is legendary: “They catch the bad guys but also love to play with kids, helping to show a very human side to police work. The dogs are great crime-fighters, loyal partners to their officers and wonderful ambassadors.”

At the dinner the community will be introduced to the SPPD’s newest dog, Django and his handler Gosselin, bid farewell to Johnson and Zak and see what Ace and Macias have been up to.

The K9 themed and fun centerpieces will be available for sale and you’ll also have the chance to win numerous prizes through the opportunity drawings.

Tickets are now available at the Santa Paula Times, 120 Davis St. and at the Santa Paula Police Department, 214 S. 10th St.
