You’ll meet the Easter Bunny, be surrounded by Mother Earth and have plenty of fun at Saturday’s Easter and Earth Day Celebration at Teague Park, an event that is free for the whole community.

Sponsored by the City of Santa Paula and Recology Ventura, the March 26 celebration will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park (located in the 500 block of West Harvard Boulevard). Children taking part in the Easter Egg Hunt must pre-register at 10:30 a.m.

According to Recreation Supervisor Beverly Ruiz, Saturday’s celebration is the first held by the city since 2010 after it was stopped by the city due to budget constraints.

Said Ruiz, “We received — and really appreciate — a donation from Recology, which is starting a new World Without Waste/Waste Zero,” program for youth.

“Recology was so kind to help us and they thought Earth Day — which is Saturday — would be a great time to do activities and games to teach children to eliminate waste and take care of their community. Since Earth Day is Saturday and Easter is Sunday we felt they would go well together for a combined celebration.”

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for children 1 to 8 years old to start the festivities at 11 a.m. (pre-registration starts at 10:30 a.m.)

“Bring your own basket for the Egg Hunt,” where, said Ruiz, there will be goodies to be found and prizes to be won.

Everyone will have an opportunity to pose for a photo with the Easter Bunny at a nominal cost.

There will be pre-school age activities and older children will have plenty of fun also: there will be carnival booths for kids 9 to 12 years old.

The event offers arts and crafts, Earth Day games, exhibits by Santa Paula Police and Fire departments, the Recology Waste Zero kickoff and live music by the rocking Juano & Friends, one of the best bands in the region.

Members of the Optimist Club noted Ruiz will show kids how to plant flowers.

Recology is asking that those that attend the free Easter and Earth Day Celebration bring their own water reusable water bottle for no cost refills all day long.

And to keep from getting thirsty from all the fun: Ruiz said, “The potato sack race is one of our main games and we’ll also have an egg roll race, pie-eating contest, dart throw, basketball hoops, Jolly Jump, an obstacle course and a rabbit hunt as well as various carnival games. Everyone will enjoy Juano & Friends — it’s a great band — and there will be food available to purchase.”

Added Ruiz, “We’re planning on having about 20 activities…there’s going to be a lot going on!”
