Transportation Interaction Forum scheduled Jan. 26 in SP

January 20, 2016
Santa Paula News

What does Ventura County need to keep traffic flowing and people moving — and how much commuters should pay — will be the topics of discussion at a special meeting address getting here to there at an upcoming Transportation Interactive Forum.

Sponsored by the Ventura County Transportation Commission, the series of meetings will stop in Santa Paula on Tuesday, January 26 at the Community Center located at 530 W. Main St. from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Traffic flowing, people moving and the economy growing will be addressed with input sought on what commuters need to navigate the region.

The Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) wants the public’s input on whether the existing transit system is meeting their needs, from relieving freeway bottlenecks and repairing potholes to expanding transit service and improving bike paths.

It was only last year that Santa Paula launched a Joint Powers Agreement with Fillmore and Piru — the latter governed by the County of Ventura — providing its own inner-city bus service, which resulted in Valley Express. Serving Santa Paula, Fillmore and Piru, Valley Express has undergone route changes — Fillmore has expanded their service — and is changing commuter rates for daily fares and monthly passes for commuters buses which also are ADA compliant.

The JPA also continued the pick you up by appointment Dial-A-Ride service; VCTC, which manages the JPA, also provides freeway flyer services to Ventura and beyond.

The public is also invited to a February 8 hearing with members of the Ventura County Transportation Commission at Camarillo City Hall Council Chambers, 601 Carmen Drive. The hearing will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Santa Clara River Valley residents who cannot attend the January 26 meeting can call 1-800-438-1112, or email etalbo@government.org or through www.GoVentura.org
