Two Santa Paula men were arrested after a Christmas Eve day burglary when they took presents from under the tree as well as other items in the household.

According to Santa Paula Police Sgt. Cody Madison, the incident occurred December 24 shortly before 1:15 p.m. when police were notified that a man had been spotted running away from a residence in the 400 block of Dartmouth Road “carrying a television…”

Upon arrival of police and an initial investigation it was found that the residence had been burglarized.

“It was found that the suspects had made entry into the residence and proceeded to ransack and take the Christmas presents that were under the Christmas tree,” said Madison.

But that wasn’t all: other electronic property was also taken from the home including four televisions, a computer, an iPad and personal items of jewelry.

Madison said that during the course of investigation Germain Ramos, 24, of Santa Paula, was identified as one of the “primary suspects” involved in the residential burglary.

“Ramos” said Madison, “is known,” to police, “has a criminal record and is currently on probation on a theft conviction.”

A probation search of Ramos’ living quarters within a residence was conducted the same day; during the probation search, officers located and recovered most of the stolen property.

Ramos was not home at the time of the warrant search however a “probable cause to arrest for burglary was issued…”

On December 29 at approximately 7:20 a.m. SPPD Officers located Ramos near his residence. He was taken into custody for suspicion of residential burglary and later booked at Ventura County Main Jail.

Additional investigation led to the identity of the second suspect, Alejandro Castro, 31, also of Santa Paula.

On December 30 at approximately 3 p.m. SPPD Officers observed Castro driving in the area of the 200 block of East Harvard Boulevard where a traffic stop was conduct.

Madison said Castro was taken into custody for suspicion of burglary without incident.

“A search of his vehicle revealed additional stolen property taken from the victim’s home,” and Madison said the property was recovered.

Castro was also transported to Ventura County Jail and booked for suspicion of burglary and conspiracy.

The bail for both suspects is set at $50,000
