“As Officer Van Hemert attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop,” Macias said the vehicle failed to yield and proceeded south on 8th Street from Harvard Boulevard.
The vehicle made a left turn onto Santa Maria Street and continued east through the parking lot of 824 E. Santa Maria St.
“At one point the vehicle slowed,” at which time Macias said a “handgun was thrown out the passenger’s side window.”
The Dodge truck continued east through the alleyway adjacent to Santa Paula Airport and eventually stopped just west of 10th Street.
At that time a high-risk stop was initiated with the five occupants removed from the vehicle and detained.
Macias said a search of the vehicle resulted in locating a shotgun and Taser baton; the handgun that was thrown from the vehicle was recovered as well.
All the subjects were arrested and transported to the Santa Paula Police Station.
It was found that three of the subjects were residents of Fillmore, two 17-year-old juveniles and Julian Resendez, 18.
The other two juveniles were Santa Paula residents, one 16 years old and the second 17 years old.
One of the four juveniles was arrested for suspicion of a minor in possession of a firearm, minor in possession of ammunition, and possession of a controlled substance. A second juvenile was arrested for an outstanding warrant. The two were transported to Ventura County Juvenile Hall.
Macias said the other three subjects in the vehicle were released pending further investigation.
