A Santa Paula man was killed Sunday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in El Rio, an accident the California Highway Patrol is hoping the public can offer information on.

According to CHP Officer Rolando Tejeda, the December 13 collision occurred at 4:21 p.m. when a 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 2015 Toyota Highlander hit each other on Rose and Central avenues, near El Rio High School.

Ricardo Madrigal, 35 of Santa Paula, was driving his Harley-Davidson eastbound on Rose Avenue approaching Central Avenue when, “for reasons that are still under investigation,” he failed to come to a stop at the traffic light at the intersection.

“As the male rider entered the intersection, the Harley-Davidson collided into the passenger side of the Toyota Highlander,” that was traveling southbound on Central Avenue and proceeding through the intersection on a green traffic signal.

When the motorcycle and vehicle collided Madrigal was ejected from the Harley-Davidson and sustained fatal injuries.

Madrigal, noted Tejeda, was pronounced deceased at the scene by firefighters.

The driver of the Toyota Highlander, Isaias Reyes, 39, of Oxnard, was not injured in the collision but one of his two passengers sustained minor injuries. Fire EMTs and ambulance paramedics treated the victim on scene before he was transported to Ventura County Medical Center.

The collision is still under investigation by the Ventura Area CHP Office.  Anyone who witnessed or has information regarding the collision is asked to call the Ventura Area CHP office at (805) 477-4100.
