Donald (Don) Dean Paillette

 Donald (Don) Dean Paillette, 87, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November, 24, 2015. He was born on January 19, 1928 to Raymond Franklin and Eliza Josephine Paillette in Concordia, Kansas where he grew up and attended school. 

 Don enlisted in the US Navy in 1946 and served for one year. He graduated from the University of Wichita where he completed his BA in Music and History in 1949. While attending University of Wichita Don met and married Norma Lee Young. They went on to have four children; David, Denise, Dena and Diane. Don also attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS for a year. In 1953 Don taught instrumental and vocal music at Downs High School in Kansas. 

Don re-entered the Navy In 1953 as a Commissioned officer, serving as a Lieutenant. In 1960 he received his MA in History from University of Louisville, Kentucky. He completed active duty in 1964 and joined the Navy Reserves at Point Mugu Naval Air Base as a Lieutenant Commander. He retired from the Navy Reserve in 1974 as the Commander of the Naval Reserve Manpower Center.

Don taught History at Ventura College for 29 years retiring in 1993. During that time he had a positive impact on many students. For many years he announced the Ventura College Women’s Basketball games. He enjoyed his years of teaching. Don loved music and ballroom dancing. He also enjoyed  traveling and playing golf. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond and Eliza Paillette and his sister Linda Paillette. He is survived by his four children: David  Paillette, Denise Reynolds, Dena Ebinger and Diane Von Heyneman; four grandchildren: Jonathan Paillette, Nichole Lafferty, Michelle Paillette Kölln, Ziah Von Heyneman; and three great grandchildren: Hezekiah Lafferty, Mariella Kölln, Benedict Kölln.

A celebration of Don’s life was held on Sunday, November 29, 2015, 2:00 PM, at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd, Ventura.
