Barbara Elaine Harvey

Barbara Elaine Harvey passed away on October 28, 2015 after a courageous 13 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  Even though the disease took our mom from us, it never took her sweet demeanor. Barb was born September 29, 1935 in Santa Paula first child of Verne and Milford Harpster. Barb was a Daddy’s girl all the way and missed him greatly after his passing in 1972.  The next 26 years she was very close to her mother until her passing in 1998 from the same dreaded disease.

Barb was crowned Home coming queen her senior year in 1953 at Santa Paula High School.  She married our father Phil Harvey in 1955.  In 1965 they welcomed their son Chris and three years later their daughter Dana.  The Family spent much time camping in the desert and vacationing with family and friends.  Barb was also an avid sports fan, coming to all of Chris’s games and watching the Dodgers and Lakers on T.V.  Her favorite show on television was Murder she Wrote, Barb never missed an episode.

Santa Paula is where she called home, Barb lived there alongside her brother Andy, who also died from Alzheimer’s disease and younger sister Tana who survives her sister.  The siblings were very close and spent a lot of time together include a trip with Tana to Boston after Barb’s retirement.  Barb worked for Rick Barringer Construction as a secretary for more than 25 years.  She was a kind heart to the senior folks who lived near her office, she was always willing to sit and talk with them when they were lonely.

Barb was a kind soul and people who knew her felt very lucky to know her just ask the ladies in her BUNCO group they loved her.  It’s with great sorrow we say goodbye but greater relief that she is free from the sentence Alzheimer’s gave her.  Barb leaves behind her son Chris, daughter Dana, Grandchildren Kelsey, Nicole, Dustin, Craig, Kristen and Jessica, sister Tana and sister in law Judy and many nieces and nephews. The Family will attend a private graveside service and a public celebration of life will be held at Mountain View Golf Course on Sunday, November 15 from 4pm to 6pm. The family would like to give a big thanks to the staff at Mound Guest Home for being so caring and loving with our Mom in her final years.
