Joseph Vega

Joseph Vega, son of Macedonio and Maria de Jesus Vega, was born April 1st 1939 in Ventura, Ca. He lived a most generous life until he passed on Wed Oct 28th 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife Susan Sahagun, and is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Maria J Vega, his six children Carolyn, Steve, Veronica, Mike, Leslie and Kristina Vega, and his grandkids Seth, Zoe and Emery.

Joe’s life was characterized by humility, generosity, service and dedication. He worked alongside his dad in the ranches and agricultural fields of Ventura Co. He served his country in the Navy as a Seabee during the Vietnam War.  Encouraged by his father, he established his own business, Vega Welding, where he worked as a welder for over 45 years. Through Vega Welding, he was an active and available member to the Santa Paula community, helping the agricultural community, the schools, and churches. He was mentor for many, a gentle rock, and untiring man of assistance and service to anyone in need.

In his quiet and gentle nature, he bravely fought cancer for 5 years. The family would like to express gratitude for the long standing and strong support of many loving friends, family, neighbors, church members, and for the tender care provided by Silverado Hospice care. He left this earth surrounded lovingly by his family, and the many people he touched. He will be forever remembered as an unparalleled example of kindness and benevolence, an inventive and hardworking individual, a sweet and gentle soul. The greatest happiness of his life came from his ability to serve others, and the incredible pride he had for his family.

Joe was an advocate for education and opportunity for youth. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to St. Sebastian School, or the Santa Paula Boys and Girls Club.

A Rosary will take place at St. Sebastian Church on Tuesday Nov. 3rd at 7 PM.  A holy mass will be celebrated at St. Sebastian Church on Wednesday Nov 4th at 10:30 AM followed by a burial service at Santa Clara Cemetery.
