Consuelo Hernandez Garcia

Our beloved mother Consuelo, “Chelito” Garcia’s life journey began in Mexico City on November 8, 1922.  She was called to be with her Heavenly Father on October 2, 2015 surrounded by her loving children.

Mother married the love of her life Rafael Garcia Gonzalez in Mexico City on January 1, 1946.  They were married for 53 year and had six children.

In 1958 the journey continued and the family immigrated to Santa Paula to join her mother Juanita Alonzo and brother Adalberto and sister Catalina.  Like many immigrant families of that time, mother worked at Briggs Packing House for a few years.  In the early 60’s, to add to her love of the U.S.A mother gave birth to Diana who was born on the 4th of July.  In 1966 an opportunity presented itself as Ralph’s Taco House went up for sale and mother purchased it.  She operated the business for 37 years, from 1966 to 2003.  Mother labored long hours preparing and serving delicious Mexican and American food to her customers.  Because of her many years in the business, she became good friends with many of her clients who frequented her business.  The community’s love for her tacos, hamburgers, corn burritos and salsa produced long-term friendships.

Our mother’s other talents included gardening, crocheting, crafts, painting, watercolors, and making ceramic artifacts.  She loved to sew clothes for herself and for her children. She was an avid seamstress. Mom dressed very stylish, with great elegance and flair.  During her limited free time, mother enjoyed watching popular television shows of that time such as, I Love Lucy, Ed Sullivan, Carol Burnett and Red Skelton to name a few. This is how our mother learned english because there were no spanish language programs at the time. Mother also enjoyed and experienced many musical eras with her children as we were growing up throughout the 60’s into the late 90’s.   Mother made it a point to spend time with her grandchildren by attending their musical plays and sporting events.  She was proud to see them perform and be active in school.

Her husband Rafael Garcia Gonzalez, mother Juana Alonzo Quintero, sister Catalina Villa, son-in-law Gil Castaneda, Jr. and great-granddaughter Savannah Rose Vasquez precede her in death.

Her son and five daughters survive our mother Consuelo. Martha (David) Jimenez, Liz Castaneda, Ralph (Barbara) Garcia, Connie (Lorenzo) Moraza, Rose (Roland) Hernandez, and Diane (Freddie) Perez. brother Adalberto(Delia) Hernandez; thirteen grandchildren: Eddie, Kimberly, Jeanette, Erin, Mark, Joseph, Tony, Roland, Randall, Angelica, Lena, Michael, and Tommy, twenty-six great-grandchildren, one great- great grandchild also survive her.

Consuelo’s family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Antonio Ruelas, the staff of Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurses/Hospice who provided loving, skillful care.  We want to specially thank Theresa RN, Maureen RN and Jackie RN, for their excellent compassionate care.  Special gratitude to Elva Perez, for her care-giving and loving touch.  Thank you Elva.
