Larry Fuller

1924-2015

Larry Fuller was born in Ontario, California, April 15, 1924, to Fern and Ernest Fuller. He died September 24, 2015 in Camarillo, California at the age of 91.

Larry attended Santa Paula High School where, as a sophomore, he met his future wife, Mary Strickland. Mary died in 2009 at the age of 84. While in high school, Larry participated in football, basketball and track.  Larry received his BS degree in engineering at Caltech. He was commissioned a naval officer at Notre Dame during WWII.

Larry and Mary were married November 6, 1945. This November would have marked their 70 anniversary.  They lived in Pico Rivera for 4 years and later moved to Whittier where they raised their two daughters. Larry worked as a mechanical engineer at Byron Jackson Pumps/Borg Warner for 25 years. He retired in 1970 and returned to school at Long Beach State where he received a master’s degree in engineering and education.  He and Mary moved to Ventura County in 1971. Larry taught at Simi High School for 20 years until his retirement in 1990 at age 66.

As a child, Larry began his love of camping, fishing and duck hunting. He also loved snow skiing, flying and sailing. In retirement, Larry enjoyed farming his 15 acres of avocadoes in Santa Paula. He also became an active participant in the Ventura Recreation Department sailing program. He owned a small sail boat and sailed to the Channel Islands whenever he could. Larry shared his love of the outdoors, especially his cherished High Sierra, with his children and grandchildren. In the words of Mary, his wife, “Larry was always a dear and kind man.”

Larry is survived by his daughters Linda (husband, Dave) and Becky (husband, Tom); grandchildren, Adam (wife, Sherry), Jennifer, Brian and Todd; and three great-grandchildren, (Mia, Max and Macie).

A graveside memorial for family and friends will take place on Saturday, November 21 at 11:00 am at the Santa Paula Cemetery.
