Santa Paula Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Monday evening that the suspect told police was self-defense.

According to SPPD Sgt. Cody Madison, the September 7 officers responded at approximately 7:56 p.m. to the 100 block of Felkins Road—located south of West Telegraph Road—for a stabbing victim.

“Upon officers arrival they discovered the victim, age 26, had received two non life-threatening stab wounds to the torso,” and police came into contact with Robert Cacho in the same area.

Madison said the investigation showed that Cacho was walking to a local gas station when he needed to urinate; while using a nearby tree he was confronted by the suspect “who was walking with a witness…words were exchanged between the victim and Cacho,” a verbal altercation that escalated into a fight.

“During the fight the victim was choking Cacho while punching him,” noted Madison, “Cacho believed he was going to die and removed a knife from his pocket,” and stabbed the victim twice in the torso.

The wounds were not life threatening.

The fight ended and SPPD Officers arrived shortly thereafter.

Santa Paula Fire EMTs and ambulance paramedics treated the victim on scene before he was transported to Ventura County Medical Center where he spent the night.

“After being interviewed,” Madison said, “Cacho was released pending further investigation at this time.”
