Bike & Build 2015 stops in Santa Paula

The Bike & Build team pedaled their way through Ventura County last weekend.  Bike & Build is a non-profit organization raising money to help build affordable housing for those who are less fortunate. The Bike & Build team began their journey in Portland, Maine on June 30.  These young adults pedaled their way through many states; Ohio, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Arizona and finally California. Unfortunately, the team encountered a tragedy while riding through Oklahoma.  Two cyclists were struck by a moving vehicle, which left one rider hospitalized and the other rider lost his life.   Despite how difficult this trial was, the team continued to press-on towards their goal.  The Santa Paula Church of Christ hosted these cyclists on Sunday evening.  Together the church members provided hospitality to these exhausted and overheated riders, which included food, drinks, snacks, and a cool place to shower and sleep.  The cyclists left early Monday morning to finish their journey which ended in Santa Barbara.  The Maine to Santa Barbara Bike & Build team has raised $187.656.
