Charles Alfred Fairbanks

The son of Pudgy and Rosie (Burleson) Fairbanks, Charles (Chuck) Alfred Fairbanks also lovingly known as “Brother” to friends and family, age 71, from Santa Paula, CA passed on August 13th 2015 at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, CA.

Rosie Fairbanks gave birth to her baby boy on Aug 18th 1943 in Oxnard, Ca.  He was raised in Santa Paula, CA with his sisters Carole”Sissy” and Cheryl Ray”Charry”.  Chuck also had a number of cousins with whom he grew up with as the Burleson family frequently gathered together for family time.  He went to Mupu Elementary School and graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1962.  Shortly afterwards Chuck entered the reserves.  He married Nancy Siverts in 1966 and had his only child and the love of his life Sherri Leann a year later.  From the beginning of her life to the last day of his he lovingly called his daughter “Sugar Foot” or “Shug (short for sugar)”.

Chuck loved to fish which he shared with his daughter Sherri and later with his grandson Kobie.  He also had many card games with his granddaughter Kala and with whomever else who wanted to lose at the game.  He loved his LA Angels and watching the races and golf.  For the past 30+ years he lived with his sister Cheryl Ray with whom they lovingly took care of their mother Rosie.  Cheryl Ray and Chuck were very close siblings from the very beginning to his final day.   In his retirement years he learned the love of gardening, cooking, and canning.  His sister Cheryl Ray has his last batch of pickled beets under lock and key.  He also loved to “supervise” his daughter and son-in laws remodeling projects.

Chucks dream was to always get a big enough piece of land to where he could put two houses: one for him, his mom, and his sister Cheryl Ray and the other for his daughter Sherri.  This past year in March his daughter and son-in-law Scott finally found and purchased that property.  Plans were being made up to his final day on where they were going to place the house and how they were going to organize the garden to keep the rabbits and wildlife out.  He and his daughter were online the day before his passing picking out what fruit trees were going to be planted; cherry, apple, and apricot were requested.

It is very heartbreaking to his sister Cheryl Ray and his daughter that he will not be able to physically enjoy his longtime dream that was finally coming true.  However his daughter will be taking his ashes with her back to North Dakota to his final resting place where he was planning on moving after he got out of the hospital.  She will be planting some of his ashes with each fruit tree that they had picked out the day before he passed.

Chucks passing has left an emptiness in our hearts that will take time to heal.  His daughter will be making a memorial booklet that she would like to share and mail out to his family and friends.  She is asking for you to mail to her your name, address and your favorite memories and copies of any pictures that you would like to share of her dad so that she can include some in the memorial booklet to be mailed back to you and also in a memory book that she will be making for her children about their grandpa.  Her address is PO Box 212, Sawyer, ND 58781.
