Shirley Ann Capps Logsdon Alsup

Shirley Ann Capps Logsdon Alsup, age 80, of Santa Paula passed from this life to join her heavenly father on August 1st, 2015 surrounded by her loving family.

Shirley was born November 13, 1934 in Duncan, Oklahoma.  As a child she moved to Arvin, California where her parents picked cotton.  Her mother had to enroll her in school a year early because they didn’t have childcare.  From there they moved to Nyland Acres near Oxnard where the family prospered.  Her father worked at Port Hueneme Naval Base during WWII.  After the war, they moved to Santa Paula as her father began to work for Texaco.  Shirley attended Barbara Webster Elementary, Isbell Jr. High and Santa Paula Union High School.  She was married at a young age to Gawain Logsdon.  They had 2 children, daughter Toni and son Stanton.  It was important to her to be a stay at home mother during their early years.  When she felt she was ready to enter into the workforce, she was determined to be prepared by taking night classes.  She worked 20+ years in the automobile business.  17 of those years were with McConica Motors where she became their office manager and a member of the board.  She was always a hard worker and never stopped.  She and Gawain ventured into restaurant proprietership beginning in 1972 by first purchasing The Cookery in Ventura, then the Peppermill in Santa Paula along with her daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Bob Wagner.  Eventually, Gawain & Shirley were approached by members of the Santa Paula Airport to make Ralph Dickenson’s vision for an airport restaurant come to fruition.  Thus, Logsdon’s at the Airport was built in 1990.  It was a true family business.  One she loved very much.  Her 44 year marriage to Gawain tragically ended upon his death in 1994.  She fortunately met and married the new love of her life and best friend, Roy Alsup in 1996.  They began to have new adventures together all around the world.  This included sport fishing trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Australia, Alaska and Canada.  They took many cruises to Hawaii, Australia, Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia and Mexico.  She and Roy enjoyed country dancing, playing poker, entertaining friends, spending time with family, and attending church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Frankie Capps, sister, Sonja Capps, 1st husband Gawain Logsdon, and son, Stanton Logsdon.

She is survived by her husband Roy Alsup, daughter and son-in-law Toni and Bob Wagner, stepchildren Roy Lee & Patti Alsup, Paige & Sam Bennett and their families.  Granddaughter, Ashley McCarthy and her husband David.  Grandson, Gawain Wagner and his wife Ali.  Greatgrandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Jordan, Devyn and Laney Wagner, and Hailey and Zackary McCarthy.

A viewing will be held 4:00pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, August 7th at Skillin-Carroll Mortuary, 738 E. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula.  A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 8th at Church of Christ, 276 W. Santa Paula St., Santa Paula.  There will be a private family burial.
