A 29-year-old Santa Paula man was apparently stabbed in the back of the head Sunday in an area park where an unrelated attack had occurred the day before.

According to Santa Paula Police Sgt. Cody Madison the August 2 incident apparently occurred about 9 p.m. at Teague Park in the 500 block of West Harvard Boulevard.

Santa Paula Police were summoned to Santa Paula Hospital to the report of a stabbing victim being treated in the Emergency Room and found the victim who said he had been at the park with several friends when he was suddenly attacked from behind.

Once the attack was over, “He realized he had stab wounds to the back of his head,” and was driven to the hospital in a private vehicle.

Madison said the victim told police that a witness to the attack was in the hospital lobby but when questioned she denied being at the park.

Rather, the woman told police she was driving on Santa Paula Street when the victim “flagged her down” and she drove him to the hospital.

“She’s being uncooperative, he’s being uncooperative, their stories are not matching up, somebody’s lying” said Madison.

In addition, the victim “Told an investigator it’s ‘not his way to rat on’ people.

Madison said the victim was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for his injury which is not life threatening.

The victim, a tattoo artist, recently moved to Santa Paula from Oxnard and Madison said he is not believed to be a gang member.

Madison said there could be various motives for the attack, ranging from a business dispute to a “gang member didn’t like the tattoo he did so he took that route,” to show his displeasure, “but we don’t know because the victim is being uncooperative…”

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Shane Norwood at 525-4474 ext. 287.

On Saturday afternoon at Teague Park a 14-year-old juvenile was taken into custody for allegedly stabbing an 8-year-old boy in the back with a pocketknife causing a minor injury.
