It’ll be $1 all day on the first day of the 48th Annual Kiwanis Club Citrus Festival when on July 23 all rides will be one dollar, some food specials will be $1 and the entry fee for all 6 years and older is only, you guessed it, one buck! And, those 5 and younger are free!

The added day of fruity fun and the added bonus of Thursday’s $1 Day is a deal that carnival lovers won’t want to miss, according to Bill Grant, the longtime coordinator of the event.

Grant noted that this year’s Citrus Festival will still be held at Harding Park but “It’s concentrated on being a carnival only,” featuring dozens of thrilling rides for all ages provided by the famed G&S Shows, a.k.a. Guadagno & Son’s Amusements.

This year’s Citrus Festival will be held July 23, 24, 25 and 26; hours Thursday and Friday are 5 to 11 p.m., Saturday and Sunday noon to 11 p.m.

Grant said since the Citrus Festival format has changed (at least this year) to a mega-carnival only, the price of admission for all days is $1 each for those 6 years and older; those 5 years and younger are free!

“And being able to get on each ride for only $1 is a tremendousdeal!,” said Grant of the Thursday-only $1 Day.

Since the Citrus Festival has “downsized” for its 48th year, a move that Grant said will allow the members to be able to relax and do more planning for the 2016 event, the only food vendors will also be Guadagno & Sons, offering a full menu of delicious carnival favorites.

Grant noted that on the Thursday, July 23 $1 Day, there will also be some food specials offered for only $1.

“It’s going to be a tremendous deal for a tremendously good time...everybody loves a carnival and that’s what Kiwanis is offering this year, an old fashioned carnival!” set up on the lower fields at

Harding Park, home to Santa Paula’s Little League.

“We’ll still have our Wristband Saturday,” when $20 pre-sale bracelets allow visitors unlimited rides from noon to 6 p.m., but he added, “Dollar Day Thursday is also a tremendous bargain...you get in for a dollar, some food specials will be $1 and you can ride as many rides as you want for as many times are you want for only one dollar each!”

Ride tickets will be regular prices for Friday, Saturday — except for those wearing wristbands during the special hours — and Sunday.

“We expect a real good turnout and we’re excited,” about the extra Citrus Festival $1 Day on Thursday, said Grant, who noted the price will benefit, “families with kids, people out on dates, friends going out for a night of fun, everyone! Everyone loves the bright lights, noise and fun of the carnival! And every penny we earn goes to the youth of Santa Paula,” through programs and activities supported by Kiwanis.
