SPUSD board tables car show at Isbell,
gives green light for women’s football

The Santa Paula Unified School District board has tabled a request for a big car show at Isbell School.

Century 21 Hometown Realty and the Pachuco Car Club wanted to use the Isbell field for the show on August 30. Several board members expressed concerns about security and other issues, which Bob Martinez of the car club didn’t have definitive answers for. The club would have been required to pay the District $1,872 for use of the facility.

In another matter, the Board gave an okay to the Ventura County Wolfpack, a women’s’ full-contact football team to play three games on Jones Field at Santa Paula High School. The team would pay $1,041 per game for use of the field, locker room, restrooms, one custodian and one security person. The first game was to be May 9th, but had to be cancelled.

The Ventura County Wolfpack is a brand new Women’s Tackle Football Team. The team is revving up for their debut season in the Women’s Football Alliance 2015 League line up. The WFA, established in 2008, is the Nation’s largest and most competitive Semi-Pro Women’s Tackle Football League.

The SPUSD Board also had to rescind a vote taken in June of last year, approving an architect agreement for modernization work at Glen City School. The action came because of a potential conflict of interest with Board Member Kelsey Stewart. She left the boardroom and the board again approved the agreement.

A similar action took place at an earlier board meeting. The board had to redo a vote on a consent calendar item when Board Member Diana Ponce-Gomez realized she had mistakenly voted on a matter that affecting her husband, who teaches and coaches at Santa Paula High School.
